The founding idea and sustainable constructions

Revosteel Building S.p.A. was founded in 2022 from the passion and experience of an entrepreneur with 30 years of expertise in Real Estate, with the aim of introducing a disruptive business model, technologies, and products in the field of sustainable construction.

Sustainability & Circular Economy

The construction sector accounts for more than 40% of global pollution, and in a historical period of profound energy transition, Revosteel Building, with its Steelconchiglia® construction system based on CFS steel and high-performance building envelopes, significantly reduces the environmental impact of buildings. It optimizes resource use, energy efficiency, and waste management, fully embracing the concept of a circular economy.

Quality of Life & Well-Being

According to a YouGov survey, we are a generation that spends approximately 22 hours a day indoors, often in poorly lit environments filled with pollutants that are harmful to our health.
Steelconchiglia® was created to develop and produce sustainable buildings designed with a focus on the health and well-being of occupants, ensuring better air quality and maximum thermal and acoustic comfort.

Innovation & Productivity

In Italy, the construction sector comprises approximately 500,000 companies employing 1.7 million workers.
According to CRESME, the added value per hour worked is 27% below the national average, ranking higher only than the tourism sector. Construction must therefore adapt to the significant ongoing changes by shifting towards sustainability and innovation drivers, which are at the core of the Steelconchiglia® construction philosophy.

Sustainability & the 4Rs of the Circular Economy

 01  Reduce

A Steelconchiglia® property weighs about 8 times less than a reinforced concrete building, 3 times less than a wooden one, and does not use water in the construction process; moreover, the industrialization of the product leads to a significant reduction in material waste.
The Steelconchiglia®, born from the combination of CFS with high-performance building envelopes, reduces the energy consumption for air conditioning and the management of the property.

 02  Reuse

When a Steelconchiglia® property reaches the end of its utility, instead of being demolished and sent to a landfill, its structural components and building envelope can simply be removed or dismantled and reused elsewhere, further extending the product's lifecycle. This is possible because it is assembled with screws and not glued like wood or "hardened" with chemical reactions like concrete.

 03  Recycle

The CFS steel used in the production of Steelconchiglia® is not consumed and is the only material that is truly 100% recyclable because when CFS is recycled, there is no downgrading. The CFS steel recycling system is a true closed loop. It is recycled and reused without any loss of quality. This is in contrast to wood, where the "waste" portion equals 20% and the remaining part is turned into "secondary" raw material (chipboard, wood pulp, etc.), and concrete, which is only recyclable at 10-15%.

 04  Recovery

Thanks to the inherent durability of the Steelconchiglia®, made of CFS steel and materials of mineral and natural origin, it requires little maintenance over time and is also suitable for regeneration and restoration to the same "as new" condition as when it left the production site.

The sustainability of CFS steel

Resource Savings
Resource Savings

In Italy, approximately 30,000 new single-family and two-family homes are built each year, equivalent to 3.5 million square meters. If they were constructed using CFS steel, the following savings would be achieved:

  • 350,000,000 liters of water compared to reinforced concrete constructions (equivalent to the annual potable water consumption of a city with 500,000 inhabitants).
  • 76,000 km² of forest compared to wooden constructions (equivalent to 90% of Austria's surface area).
Use of Steel
Use of Steel

In Italy, approximately 500,000 cars are demolished each year.

500,000 cars to be demolished = 450,000,000 kg of steel

This could be used to build 174,000 new villas every year! (Villas of 116 sqm, equivalent to the average size of single-family homes in Italy)

CO2 LCA
(Life Cycle Analisys)

The Steelconchiglia® is made of steel and building materials that are (almost) entirely recyclable and reusable. When analyzing the "footprint" of Steelconchiglia® in terms of CO₂ over the entire lifecycle of a building compared to a traditional reinforced concrete and brick structure, the benefits are evident:

Steelconchiglia®:
Global Warming Potential
(GWP) -303%
Total Primary Energy Demand (TPE) -296%

Academic Validation

The entirety of the numerous academic studies comparing traditional construction techniques with "off-site" CFS and wood construction confirms the overwhelming superiority of the latter in achieving the goal of "net zero emissions" in the building sector.

In particular, for the quality of the analyzed data, the specificity of the comparison between reinforced concrete + bricks and CFS + dry envelope (Steelconchiglia®), and the fact that the study is also based on field surveys conducted in the Italian context, it is worth mentioning the publication by Professors Vitale, Spagnuolo, Lobritto, and Arena from the Department of Environmental, Pharmaceutical, and Biological Sciences and Technologies at the University of Caserta in the "Journal of Cleaner Production," Volume 189, which concludes:

"The study quantifies the environmental impacts associated with each phase of a building's life cycle (construction, use, and demolition), based on high-quality data, largely collected in the field...
... The results of the life cycle impact assessment (LCA) indicate that the CFS-constructed house performs better in the most significant environmental impact categories, namely respiratory inorganic substances, global warming potential (GWP), and non-renewable energy.
These advantages further increase, up to 24%, when considering the possibility of easy and complete disassembly of the CFS structure, allowing for the recovery of CFS elements as well as cladding and insulation panels. This aspect, combined with good seismic performance and lower investment costs, makes the CFS solution particularly attractive..."

Quality of Life & Well-Being

The transition to sustainable construction is now a necessity to improve people's quality of life, reduce energy consumption, increase property value, lower emissions, and decrease energy dependency.

Quality of Life & Well-Being

The Steelconchiglia® is made without the use of glues, solvents, or chemical hardening processes, as both the structure and building envelope are produced and assembled solely using certified structural screws. All materials used can be disassembled and recycled at the end of the product's lifecycle.

To protect people's health and well-being, it is essential to significantly enhance the quality of the built environment—not only by ensuring thermal and acoustic comfort and healthy indoor spaces but also by carefully considering the entire lifecycle of the building product. Only by respecting the environment and the land can human health be truly preserved.

Innovation & Productivity

For decades, the construction industry has lagged behind other sectors in terms of productivity. Now, there is an opportunity for a radical change: shifting many aspects of construction from traditional on-site projects to off-site manufacturing-style production, applying innovation and sustainability.

Innovation & Productivity

The Steelconchiglia® construction system was specifically designed to be built off-site and sustainably, following the changes in the technological and economic environment. Sustainable construction is not only about environmental protection but also has a significant economic and social impact, greatly increasing sector productivity.

The focus on sustainability in the design and construction phase of Steelconchiglia® translates into both economic efficiency and reduced construction times, resulting in buildings made with high-quality materials and advanced technologies, minimizing the need for costly maintenance operations. The durable and environmentally friendly materials used in Steelconchiglia® help extend the lifespan of buildings and reduce the need for frequent interventions.
